What I’d Fix First to Make Your Copywriting Convert (With Examples)

If you’ve ever wondered, “I know I’m great at what I do… so why does my copy sound off?” — you are like most of my clients. After auditing hundreds of sales pages, websites, and emails, I can tell you this with complete confidence:

The first three fixes I make to 90% of the copy I audit are simple… and they make the biggest impact on the conversion rate.

This is for the heart-centered coach, strategist, or service provider who’s head is spinning while you’re overthinking everything…

Here’s the truth most business owners don’t realize:

You could be just one adjustment away from copy that actually connects.

Sometimes, it really can be that simple.

You’re not new to this. You have a solid offer. You care deeply. But your words aren’t pulling their weight. Let’s fix that.

In this episode, I’m sharing the 3 fixes I look for first that make the biggest difference for your bottom line. I will unpack each of these so your message finally lands the way you intended.

Why Most Conversion Copywriting Falls Flat

Here’s what I see again and again in audits:

  • Strong offers buried under unclear or bloated copy
  • Generic language that could come from anyone in your niche
  • Sales pages trying to speak to everyone (and landing with no one)
  • Formatting that overwhelms or bores the reader

And the fix is usually not writing “better” copy. It’s making a few strategic adjustments that create clarity, connection, and flow.

The goal of conversion copywriting is to get your dream client to say:
“OMG! This is me!! You get it”

That only happens when your message is clear, emotionally resonant, and easy to engage with.

Fix #1: Stop Hiding Your Message in Paragraphs

Problem: Long, dense paragraphs make your copy feel overwhelming (especially on mobile…which, statistically, is where most of your audience is reading your words). Even brilliant copy gets skimmed first, not studied.

Solution:

  • Break blocks of text into 1-2 sentence paragraphs
  • Add bold, italics, and underlining appropriately to guide the reader’s eye
  • Use bullet points for key takeaways

Why it works: Formatting is part of messaging. A well-structured page builds trust and improves readability…which are two things that directly impact conversions.

Example: I broke down a realtor’s website copy here. While this is being applied to a website, this tip is for any type of copy (email marketing, social post captions, etc).

Fix #2: Write Like You’re Talking Directly to Her

Problem: Broad, generic messaging that blends in. You’re afraid of excluding someone, so you try to speak to everyone. It’s vague.

👉 I know you don’t want to exclude people that you could be helping…but actually, you’ll end up helping less people because generic messaging is easy to ignore. No one feels truly seen.

Solution:

When you write to one specific person and speak to their emotions, it cuts through the noise.

Try this:

  • Describe your ideal client in vivid detail
  • Use her language, not industry jargon
  • Speak to her specific fears, desires, and daily reality

Why it works: People don’t convert when they understand your offer. They also need to feel understood.

Example:

My ideal client is not a “female entrepreneur”…

She is an established business owner who is highly skilled at what she does but is overwhelmed by the demands of content creation and marketing.

She wants to stay in her zone of genius while partnering with a trusted expert who can turn her voice, values, and vision into a strategic marketing system and copywriting that brings in aligned clients—without burning out.

This is the difference in knowing exactly who you’re talking to.

I called out:

  • who she is (“an established business owner who is highly skilled”)
  • met her where she is at with how she is feeling (“overwhelmed by the demands of content creation and marketing”)
  • Her desires and values (“She wants to stay in her zone of genius while partnering with a trusted expert”)
  • Connected my work to her desired solution (“a trusted expert who can turn her voice, values, and vision into a strategic marketing system and copywriting…)
  • And wrapped up with what she really wants (“aligned clients—without burning out.”)

That shift in specificity builds trust fast.

And if you want to go deeper and really do this for yourself, I go deeper in my free challenge called Why Isn’t This Converting?

This is something Copy Clarity Club members refine this every week with real-time feedback from me.

Fix #3: Show Why You’re the Only Choice

Problem: Your copy could describe anyone in your industry. There’s nothing unique anchoring it.

Solution:

  • Name what you stand for (and against)
  • Share values that shape your business
  • Highlight a differentiator that actually matters to your client

My Messaging Clarity Journal gives you more prompts to pull out your uniqueness and why YOU are the best choice for them.

Why it works: People buy from people they trust. And trust is built on resonance, not just credentials.

Example:

I didn’t choose my photographer for her fancy gear, which lenses she uses, or her portfolio.
I chose her primarily because her parenting and privacy philosophy matched mine.

That’s what builds loyalty: shared values.
